Allen turns back all challengers in Sooner Late Model victory at Enid Speedway

By John Rittenoure - ENID, Okla. (June 4, 2022) - After a disappointing Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Model Series tenth place feature finish on Friday at Creek County Speedway, Dustin Allen turned back all challengers Saturday at Enid Speedway.

Allen spent the day going over his race car and it paid off with a second victory on the season, both coming at his home track.

“We had a rough go last night,” Allen said of his Friday night finish. “We came back, got up super early, and got after it. We went over everything and did maintenance.

“It has been going really good this year here. We got two wins here, (plus) one unsanctioned.”

The main event got off to a rough start with Bubby Morgan turning his car over in turn one. Morgan was not hurt. When the race restarted AJ Brochu led the first lap from his outside front row starting position before Allen stormed past. Allen led the next 19 laps, but the win was far from easy with Kip Hughes and Hayden Ross making runs at him.

Hughes was looking for away to challenge Allen until the yellow flag waved on lap 10. Ross shot around Hughes on the restart and took his turn at Allen. Two laps later Hughes and Ross made contact in turn 3 racing for position. Ross spun and the yellow waved. Hughes restarted in second but pulled off with mechanical issues on lap 18. Jon Herring, Jr. took over second for his best finish of the season. Adam Popp moved to third with Bobby McGhee and Eddie Martin in fourth and fifth.

“The track was kind of different,” Allen said of the challenging track conditions. “In (turns) 1 and 2 you could run either top of bottom. I was running the top then moved to the bottom. Kip or Hayden pulled on the bottom and I could see them. I was just tip toeing through 3 and 4 because it was slick.”

Next Saturday the Complete Well Testing Sooner Late Models travel to 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas.
